Today is International Day of the Girl, a day that calls on the global community to rethink how to prepare young women for a successful transition into the world of work. It reminds me how fortunate I am to work at Ketchum where both my male and female colleagues are committed to helping young women enter the workforce on equal terms and supporting all women to thrive and grow in their careers.
We do this through our pro-bono partnership with Room to Read, which, among many other initiatives, works with governments to provide girls with mentoring and life skills education. And we do this by actively supporting Omniwomen, which was inspired in part by our CEO Barri Rafferty, and in particular their paneled events, where high-profile female executives share their experiences and wisdom.
But mostly we do this by living our commitment to empowering girls and women every day – by how we treat and promote one another, through the conversations we have and by mentoring girls and women in formal and informal arrangements.
This year’s International Day of the Girl theme is “With Her: A Skilled GirlForce.” In the spirit of if you can see it, you can be it, we asked some female senior leaders at Ketchum to share their career advice for young women entering the workforce. Here’s what these bright, creative and intensively hardworking women of Ketchum had to say.
And as for me, my advice is to surround yourself with smart, accomplished women and men and to seek and listen to their advice. It could change your life.
